Honey's Toe Cancer Surgery
Chapter 6

Sunday, September 10, 2006
Honey broke a nail off as so many of our toe cancer dogs have done before. The nail wouldn't heal or grow back after being on antibiotics so I knew it was the typical toe cancer symptoms I have seen so many times before in our breed over the years. The affected toe was on Honey's left front foot, inside toe. As you can see from the pix below, the growth was the size of a golf ball and came up quickly. Based on the numerous posts about toe cancer over the years, I suspected this was the dreaded SCC (squamous cell carcinoma). My dogs have had malignant melanoma before it doesn't seem to grow this rapidly nor look this ugly. Its usually a black, shiney melanoma. This was nasty and had a sick odor about it. I made the appointment to have the toe removed as soon as psoosible. Below are the actual surgery pix so be warened, they are very bloody.

WARNING!! Graphic photos, very bloody.
