Cheddar Cheese and Garlic Dog Cookies

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 1/4 cups grated cheddar cheese
8 tablespoons butter flavored Crisco (shortening)
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
5-6 tablespoons milk
pinch of salt

If needed, grate the cheese and let it stand until it reaches room temperature. Cream the cheese with the remaining ingredients. Add enough milk to form into a ball. Chill for 30 minutes. Roll on a floured board to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut to desired shape with a cookie cutter. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees (Fahrenheit) for 15 minutes or until slightly brown and firm. Allow to cool.
